The Boat
Wild Thyme is a Westerly Falcon, built in 1986.
She is a sailing cruiser, 34 feet long, with a
beam (width) of 12ft 3in, a fin keel with a draught
of 5ft, and a displacement when empty of about
6 tonnes. This gives her plenty of space for living
aboard in reasonable comfort. She has also proved
a good sailing boat.
She has spent most of her life in the Caribbean,
and came with some useful equipment. Unfortunately,
she was rather run-down cosmetically, and quite a
bit of equipment needed repairing or replacing.
Re-fitting her for our cruise to the Med has taken
most of our efforts since August 2002 (and a lot of
our savings!), and there are still jobs which we
shall have to do as we travel.
Accommodation consists of a saloon amidships, with a
folding dining table and settees either side which
can be converted to beds. At the aft end of the saloon
is the galley on one side and the navigation station
on the other. In the forepeak there is a triangular
double bunk, aft of which is a heads (toilet) compartment
with shower. Aft of the saloon is a cabin with a large
double berth and en-suite heads compartment, with a
holding tank enabling the toilet to be used in harbour.
She is also fitted with a large number of aids to the
crew's safety and comfort.
