The Crew
Peter and Kay Bartlett met at Bristol University
and married in 1972. They have 2 children, Graham
and Jenny. Graham works as a Software Engineer in
Cambridge, and is married to Emma. Jenny is a
solicitor, working in Guildford, and is married to
Allan, who designed and runs this website.
Kay and Peter bought their first boat, a Mirror
dinghy, in 1983, and raced it at Ribble Cruising
Club (RCC), near their home at Lytham, Lancashire.
Peter later progressed to Fireball and Osprey
dinghies. Kay qualified as a Senior Instructor,
and set up a training scheme for children at RCC,
using Optimist dinghies. Peter also qualified as
an Instructor.
From about 1991 they started taking an interest in
bigger boats. Both obtained Shore-based Yachtmaster
Offshore qualifications, and Peter took a Day Skipper
practical course. They enjoyed 2 flotilla holidays
in Greece, and occasionally went cruising or racing
in other people's boats.
In 1997, Peter took early retirement, and they bought
their first cruiser, Blue Skies, an Achilles 9 Metre.
Over the following 4 summers they cruised in England,
Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and the Channel Isles,
and decided they would like to sail to the Med. In 2002
they sold Blue Skies and bought a Westerly Falcon,
which they re-named Wild Thyme.
